Digital billboard proposed for Fishponds Road

Advertising giant Clear Channel have submitted their third application to replace a traditional static billboard with a digital screen – in a residential area. The new application for the junction of Station Road and Fishponds Road is in addition to the existing applications at Whitehall Road and Gloucester Road.

Update 3rd October 2019: this planning application has been rejected by Bristol City Council. There were 39 objections.

1. Go to planningonline.bristol.gov.uk/search and enter code: 19/03885/A
2. Click ‘Make a Comment’.
3. Write as much as you’d like about your objections. Below are some points you could include:

  • A digital screen would present a distraction for drivers which is unacceptable in a busy residential area. This exact location has a history of minor incidents which have occurred in 2014, 2017 and 2018. Nothing should be done which could increase the risk of more serious collisions. Furthermore, two serious accidents did occur a short distance away in 2014 and 2018.

  • Fishponds Road is an important route for nearby businesses and residences. A digital billboard would be utterly out of keeping with this environment and would be particularly harmful at night when the illuminations would generate significant light pollution, however ‘minor’ the applicant feels it would be.
