Stop 6 digital ad billboards

Object to 6 new ‘Digital hubs’ live planning applications in Hackney:

We would like to ask your help to stop BT and JCDecaux from installing 6 digital hubs in Hackney. These will run adverts 24/7 wasting precious energy, pushing ads to sell people things they don’t need, ultimately all for their corporate profit, not public benefit.

BT initially applied to install 3 of their notorious ‘Street Hubs’. And now public space visual polluter enemy no.1 JCDecaux have submitted applications for 3 more ‘digital hubs’. Sneakily they’ve split each application into 2 parts, separately applying for the installation, and the advertising consent.

Action: Take these 3 Simple steps to object:

  1. Please follow this link Hackney Council – Planning applications and register for an account on the page.
  2. Once you are logged in, look up each of these the planning applications with the following reference numbers and click “view” on each:

BT applications:

2022/1999 – Shoreditch House, 239 Old Street, Hackney, London, EC1V 9EY

2022/1998 – 20a Shoreditch High Street, Hackney, London, E1 6PG

2022/1997 – The White Horse, 64 Shoreditch High Street, Hackney, London, E1 6JJ

JCDecaux applications:

2022/1996 – 240 Stamford Hill, Hackney, London, N16 6T – Full Planning Permission

2022/1934 – 240 Stamford Hill, Hackney, London, N16 6TT – Advertisement Consent

2022/1995 –  Metropolitian Police, Stoke Newington Police Station, 33 Stoke Newington High Street, Hackney, London, N16 8DR – Full Planning Permission

2022/1933 – Metropolitian Police, Stoke Newington Police Station, 33 Stoke Newington High Street, Hackney, London, N16 8DR – Advertisement Consent

2022/1993 – Best Mangal Kebab And Cafe Bar, 107 – 109 Great Eastern Street, Hackney, London, EC2A 3JD – Full Planning Permission

2022/1930 – Best Mangal Kebab And Cafe Bar, 107 – 109 Great Eastern Street, Hackney, London, EC2A 3JD – Advertisement Consent

3. Object: Once you click “view”, scroll down to the bottom of the page (see below) where you can click “object” and insert comments, before clicking “Submit”. You can use your own words, but please make sure you include a variation of these 3 specific objections in the comments:

I object on the grounds of:

– These digital adverts being incongruous in the street, causing light and visual pollution.
– They obstruct the pavement and provide a distraction to road users.
– They provide little to no public benefit to balance out the constant energy consumption and their carbon footprint.

Thank you! Let’s make sure the streets of Hackney are for people not corporations!
